FINAL FRAME: BERT STERN (3 October 1929 – 26 June 2013)

Legendary photographer Bert Stern died today at the age of 83. Known as the first bad boy photographer and the orginal ‘mad man’, Stern is most famous for his honest and revealing portraits of Marilyn Monroe for Vogue shortly before her passing.

Stern’s simplistic and graphically elegant composition of a martini glass reflecting an inverted Egyptian pyramid stands as a defining moment for photography and art direction during the golden age of advertising.

More about the life of Bert Stern can be read in this tribute from the New York Times.
